Design Sprint 4 E.T.S.

Young designers meet social enterprises

The book DESIGN FOR SOCIAL. Boosting innovation in social enterprises is available. It recounts the experience of the project Design Sprint 4ETS

The project Design Sprint 4ETS involved three co-design events focusing on social innovation topics. These events took place in different locations and at various times throughout 2023, utilizing the Design Sprint 2.0 methodology. This approach was specifically adapted to work with the social enterprises involved, aligning with their unique objectives and operational capabilities. We explored social innovation, practiced design thinking approaches, and engaged in strategic planning of services and solutions with significant social or environmental impact. The aim was to connect a group of young designers with expertise in Strategic and Service Design with three social enterprises (ETS).

Spinoff workshop

From Studio Shift’s Design Sprint 4ETS in Northern Italy to Design Sprint 4ESAL in Bogotá, Colombia

With the goal of bringing this experience to the Global South, and thanks to the work of one of Studio Shift’s team members who co-authored the project, two key questions emerged: How could the Design Sprint 4ETS methodology be adapted and evolved for application in different contexts? How could participatory design improve civic engagement processes within local governments?

Unlike the Design Sprint 4ETS experiences conducted in Italy, which addressed challenges proposed by organizations, the Bogotá edition focused on community-driven needs. This initiative also became an opportunity to test the feasibility of structurally integrating the DS4ETS methodology into participatory consultation and decision-making processes. Specifically, the “Participatory Budgeting” framework in Bogotá served as a platform to enable citizen participation in allocating local budgets, guided by ideas developed during the design sprints.
