ImmaginA!
Untold AAC stories
#DS2. Urban Regeneration and IoT for More Inclusive Cities
Cooperativa SOCIOSFERA, Seregno (MB)
Project by Noemi Aondio, Maria Emilia Garcia, Marta Prati, and Giulia Scala.
ImmaginA! aims to demonstrate how Augmentative and Alternative Communication can unite neurotypical children and children with cognitive disabilities in the same play activity. Educational teaching methods are generally designed exclusively for neurotypical children. Children with cognitive difficulties or autism are often excluded from the classroom and engage in specific learning activities. ImmaginA! is a storytelling game using images constructed with AAC pictograms, a potentially comprehensible language for everyone and therefore usable within the school context. The game consists of interlocking physical supports, cards with combinations of images and words, and other elements that allow for playful dynamics, autonomy in play, learning sentence construction, using verbal language, and managing emotions.
Its modularity allows for easy scalability within the educational system as a teaching tool and outside as a means of communicating narrative sequences.
